Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g oat groats
  • 6 onions, diced
  • 500 g lard, vegetable
  • salt and pepper
  • Allspice
  • possibly smoked salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

to kale

Mix the groats, onions, and lard thoroughly in a bowl with your hands and season generously with the spices. If you like it smoky, you can use smoked salt instead of table salt. Sew a bag out of linen or hessian cloth and fill it with the mixture. Leave enough space, as the groats will expand during cooking. Tie the bag shut with string. Cook in the same large pot as the cabbage, if possible. Of course, you can also use several smaller bags. The quantities given are only approximate. Generally, we recommend a one-third mix. So, equal parts of groats, onions, and lard.
