Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 800 g shallot(s)
  • 100 g sugar
  • 800 ml red wine
  • 350 ml port wine
  • 200 g butter, cold
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

with port wine – a delicious side dish to beef

Peel and halve the shallots. Caramelize the sugar in a saucepan and pour in the red wine and port wine. Add the shallots and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes (with the lid slightly ajar). When the shallots are soft, remove them and reduce the liquid by about half. Stir in the butter, cut into pieces, and season with salt and pepper. Return the onions. Can also be served with baguette as a small appetizer.
