Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 2,000 g white cabbage
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 1 tbsp butter or lard
  • 2 tbsp, levelled sugar, brown
  • 300 ml vegetable stock
  • 1 tsp salt
  • some caraway powder
  • pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Remove the stalk from the white cabbage, quarter it, and cut it into strips. Heat the fat in a large roasting pan and sauté the diced onion and brown sugar. Gradually add the cabbage strips, stirring frequently to ensure everything browns well. Then pour in the vegetable stock, season with salt, pepper, and add the caraway powder. Simmer in the covered roasting pan for about 60 minutes. It also freezes well and tastes even better reheated.
