Kadayif

Spread the love

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 500 g dough, Kadayif (pastry threads, available in every Turkish shop)
  • 250 g butter or margarine
  • 50 g almond(s), chopped
  • 400 ml water
  • 600 g sugar
  • 4 drops of lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Turkish dessert, sweet but not too sweet!

Spread the dough strands on a baking sheet (tear them apart). Melt the butter, pour it over the dough strands, and knead everything thoroughly. Place half of the dough strands in a springform pan, scatter the chopped almonds on top, then add the other half and press them down. Bake in an unheated oven at 200°C for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Bring the sugar to a boil with the water and lemon juice, then spread evenly over the still-hot kadayif and let it rest for at least 1 hour. You can also sprinkle ground pistachios or walnuts on top instead of almonds; it’s very versatile. If you like it very sweet, double the syrup.
