Spanish-Mexican pastry

Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl and add sugar and salt. Knead in the softened butter. Whisk the milk and egg together and add to the flour mixture. Knead well and refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes. In the meantime, heat the oil in a saucepan or deep fryer. Form the dough into small, walnut-sized balls. Roll out the dough balls flat with a rolling pin (about 1/2 cm thick) and fry in hot oil. Remove the fat from the bunuelos on kitchen paper. Mix the powdered sugar with the cinnamon and toss the dough pieces in it. If you don’t like cinnamon, you can of course omit it. The dough pieces also taste good with sugar or maple syrup, or even with baked-in apricot pieces.
