traditional Cologne carnival treat

The ingredients are thoroughly mixed with a mixer (dough hook!) and then deep-fried in hot oil. To do this, take two teaspoons of dough and slowly drop it into the hot oil. Remove from the oven after 5-10 minutes. Let it cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar. They taste best while still warm. Tip: They taste quite bland the next day, but marinated in honey or syrup, they’re delicious again. Variation: Add raisins to the dough and bake them a little larger for a delicious krabbelche.
