  • some butter

  • Salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

French style

Thinly slice the onions and fry them with a chopped garlic clove in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add 1 tablespoon of flour and deglaze with red wine and the meat broth. Add the tomato paste and thyme and simmer for about 15 minutes, until the onions are soft. For the cheese toasties: Toast or roast the slices of white bread and spread with the butter/garlic mixture. Sprinkle with grated cheese and bake in the oven until the cheese has melted. Meanwhile, season the meat, toss in 1 tablespoon of flour, and fry 4 minced steaks briefly (but thoroughly!) in the remaining olive oil over high heat. Serve: Place a slice of cheese toastie on each deep plate, then top with the onion sauce and then the steak. Sprinkle with Parmesan (or other cheese) and parsley and serve immediately. Serve with the red wine used for cooking, a salad of your choice as a starter, and a delicious custard/cream-based dessert. The recipe sounds quite complicated, but it’s actually pretty quick.
