Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 salted herring(s), (matjes fillets)
  • 1 apple, sweet
  • 1 onion(s), red
  • 2 cucumber(s), pickled
  • Pepper, white
  • oil
  • Vinegar (wine vinegar)
  • lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Cut the herring fillets into thumb-thick pieces. Peel the apple and cut into small cubes. Finely dice the onion and cucumber. Mix everything together in a bowl and season with white pepper, wine vinegar, and lemon juice. Serve with small boiled potatoes or fried potatoes.
