Coney Island Chili Hot Dog

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 175 ml tomato sauce or tomato paste and water
  • 250 ml water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp celery seeds or celery salt, then less regular salt
  • ¾ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 8 hot dog sausages
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • some oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Brown the ground beef in a deep frying pan over medium heat with a little oil. When it’s halfway done, add the chopped onions. When the ground beef is almost cooked, add the finely chopped garlic cloves. Then add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Simmer gently over low heat for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the sausages in hot water. Briefly toast the rolls in the toaster. Then open the rolls and fill them with the sausages and chili.
