Liver goulash Thuringian style

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g liver(s)
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 100 g onion(s)
  • 250 ml meat broth
  • 1 cup of cream, if you like, use less
  • 2 jars of mushrooms
  • 20 g butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Dice the liver and coat in flour. Heat the butter in a large pot. Add the liver and brown. Dice the onion and add it to the liver. Add the mushrooms to the pot. When the onion cubes are translucent, deglaze with half of the stock and bring to a boil. Add the cream and simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour the remaining stock into the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
