…or simple brownies

Brownie recipe for a deep baking sheet or roasting pan approximately 20 x 20 cm. Cut out the hearts with cookie cutters immediately after baking. In a large saucepan or mixing bowl (this will also be used to mix the batter later), melt the chocolate and butter over a pan of simmering water. Let cool for 5-10 minutes. During this time, line the baking sheet or roasting pan with baking paper and preheat the oven to 180°C. Add the sugar, cane sugar, and vanilla sugar to the warm butter-chocolate mixture with a wooden spoon or whisk. Mix well. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Then fold in the flour. Fold in the M&Ms. Pour onto the baking sheet lined with baking paper and smooth down. Bake for 20-23 minutes. The mixture will not be completely firm yet. This will create the soft texture later on, so don’t leave it in the oven for too long. After baking, remove from the baking sheet and, while still hot, cut out the hearts with a cookie cutter. Let cool. For the icing (it’s delicious without it too!), melt the milk chocolate and cream over a pan of simmering water. Spread the mixture over the hearts and decorate with the remaining 100g of M&Ms.
