Ingredients for 6 servings:
- 1 can of tomatoes, peeled, 400 g
- 2 large tomatoes
- 1 onion(s)
- 1 garlic clove(s)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 small bunch of oregano
- 1 small bunch of basil
- Olive oil, for frying
- 1 pinch of salt
Instructions
Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour
Peel and finely chop the onion, and fry. Add a tablespoon of sugar until caramelized. Add the canned tomatoes and simmer everything together for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. In the meantime, chop the spices and fresh tomatoes, and add them to the pot after 15 minutes. Bring the whole thing back to a boil. Then puree thoroughly with a hand blender until no chunks remain. Add salt and simmer on low heat for another 30 minutes. Season to taste, but not too much, as the pizza will already be salty enough depending on the ingredients. This tomato sauce recipe makes enough for one large baking sheet. If you have any leftovers, it can be kept in the refrigerator for a few days.
