Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 4 rolls, fresh or stale
- 6 eggs
- ½ liter of milk
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of nutmeg
- 200 g bacon
- Butter and breadcrumbs for the mold
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 35 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes
First slice the rolls, then cut them into pieces. Beat the eggs until creamy, then gradually add the milk. Season with salt and nutmeg, and pour the mixture over the rolls. Stir the mixture gently to prevent the rolls from melting completely. Let it stand for about 30 minutes, or until the rolls are fully cooked through. Cut the bacon or ham into small cubes. Heat in a pan, brown lightly, let it cool, and stir into the roll mixture. Pour the mixture into a well-greased, deep baking dish sprinkled with grated bread. Bake the casserole in a preheated oven at 180°C (convection oven) for about 30 minutes, until the top is nicely browned. It tastes best with potato salad.
