Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp oil (for frying)
  • 1 stalk(s) leek, (or 2 small stalks)
  • e.g. salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder, sweet
  • 4 slice(s) bread(s) , (mixed bread)
  • 4 tsp mustard, medium or hot
  • 8 slice(s) ham, raw, cured ham (or 4 large slices)
  • 80 g cheese, e.g. Emmental

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Cut the onions into half or whole rings. Finely chop the garlic. Sauté both in oil. Cut the leek into rings and add. Lightly brown everything, then season. Spread the bread with mustard, arrange the ham on top, and spread the warm onion mixture on top. Grate the cheese, sprinkle it on top, and briefly grill until it melts. Tastes delicious without cheese too! Variation: Instead of the leeks, you can also use 1 bunch of spring onions. Instead of grating the cheese, you can also cut it into strips. You can easily omit the ham—then the snack is vegetarian and still delicious.
