Franconian apple toast

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 apples, firm
  • 3 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • some salt
  • some pepper
  • ½ cup orange liqueur
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 slice(s) white bread, toasted
  • 4 slice(s) cheese, Emmental
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Peel and coarsely grate the apples. Heat butter in a pan and sauté the grated apple until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar. Then deglaze with the orange liqueur. Beat the eggs and stir into the apple mixture. Let them set slightly, then spread them on the slices of white bread. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and top each with a slice of cheese. Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes, until the bread has turned a beautiful golden brown.
