Toast casserole with cheese and ham

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 10 slices of toast
  • butter
  • 5 slices of cooked ham
  • 6 eggs
  • 380 ml milk
  • 3 spring onions
  • 1 garlic clove(s)
  • salt and pepper
  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • 250g mozzarella
  • e.g. parsley

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

First, preheat the oven to 180°C (top and bottom heat). Brush the slices of toast with butter and place a slice of ham between each slice. Cut them diagonally and stack them, point-up, in a baking dish, preferably an oblong one. Whisk the eggs with the milk, season with salt and pepper, and pour the egg wash evenly over the slices of toast. Let everything rest for 10 minutes. In the meantime, prepare the vegetables: slice the spring onions into rings, halve the tomatoes, and chop the garlic. Tear the mozzarella cheese. Then spread everything over the ingredients in the dish. Bake the casserole for 20 minutes and sprinkle with parsley before serving, if desired. If you’re in a hurry but still want to conjure up a wholesome and filling meal for several people, this recipe is perfect. Hearty and uncomplicated, without any fuss, but using the best ingredients you can find at home, this casserole can be prepared in a snap. Anyone who’s ever made this dish knows how to make a lot with a little.
