Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g potatoes
  • salt water
  • 400 g Leberkäse
  • 500 g sauerkraut
  • 100 g cheese (e.g. Gouda), grated
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • Salt
  • some milk
  • e.g. breadcrumbs

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Peel the potatoes and cook them in a large pot with water (just enough to cover all the potatoes) and a little salt. Meanwhile, dice the Leberkäse (meatloaf) and fry them in a pan. Mash the cooked potatoes with a little milk, salt, and a pinch of nutmeg until mashed. Mix the mashed potatoes, Leberkäse cubes, and sauerkraut well in a casserole dish and top with the cheese. If you like, you can top the casserole with breadcrumbs instead of cheese, or omit it altogether. Bake the casserole briefly at 150°C (300°F), until the cheese has melted or the breadcrumbs have become crispy.
