Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 6 slice(s) of bread, can be older if you like
- 250 g feta cheese
- 1 clove(s) garlic
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 egg(s)
- 5 tbsp olive oil, for frying
- possibly cooked ham, bacon cubes or other sausage (as desired)
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes
Quick use of leftovers as a snack or side dish to meat, vegetables, etc.
Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes (approx. 2×2 cm). Dice the feta cheese or crumble it by hand. Now fry the bread in a deep pan in olive oil until crispy. Meanwhile, press the garlic over the bread and mix it in with the oregano. Stir frequently and be careful not to burn it! Then turn off the stove (otherwise it will get too hot) and pour the egg over it (it’s good to whisk it beforehand), turning it over a few times until the egg sets. Now mix in the feta cheese. If you want the cheese to melt, you can turn the stove back on (on low heat) and mix it in again until the cheese reaches the desired consistency. You can also fry diced ham, bacon, or other sausage (depending on your preference, from the beginning or just before adding the egg). This makes a quick snack (a green salad goes very well with it), but it also works well as a side dish to grilled or roasted meat or vegetables. The bread can be a little older, as it will get nice and crispy again when fried!
