Apple rolls in almond dough

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g apples, sour
  • 60 g sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 150 g flour
  • 200 ml milk
  • 70 g ground almonds
  • 30 g almonds, chopped
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp rum
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Peel the apples, remove the cores with a corer, and cut the hollowed-out apples into approximately 1 cm thick slices. Mix the sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over the apple slices, and let stand for about 8 minutes. Separate the eggs. Whisk the flour and milk until smooth, then mix in the almonds, salt, egg yolks, oil, and rum. Beat the egg whites with the sugar until stiff peaks form and fold into the batter. Heat the oil, dip the apple slices in the batter, and fry them in the hot oil until golden brown. Sprinkle the finished apple slices with powdered sugar and serve. Serve with whipped cream and/or ice cream, if desired.
