Kronsberg's favorite stew

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 2 liters of water
  • 400 g bacon, streaky, in one piece
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4 allspice berries
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 2 tsp broth, granulated
  • 2 bunch soup vegetables
  • 1 ½ kg potatoes, floury
  • ½ bunch marjoram
  • 1 cup of cream
  • salt and pepper
  • Mettenden

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 40 minutes

Simmer water, whole bacon, mustard seeds, bay leaves, allspice berries, and broth in a large pot for 40 minutes. Meanwhile, dice the vegetables and potatoes. Add to the pot and simmer for about 20 minutes. Remove the bay leaves, allspice berries, and bacon. Roughly mash the stew with a potato masher. Chop the marjoram and add it to the pot with the cream. Season with salt and pepper. We serve the stew with plenty of chopped Mettenden sausages. The stew tastes even better the second day.
