Apple casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 rolls, stale
  • ¼ liter of milk
  • 75 g butter, soft
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp, leveled baking powder
  • ⅛ liter sour cream
  • 250 g quark
  • 1 packet of pudding powder (mandella)
  • 750 g apples (Boskop)
  • 2 egg whites
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Sugar
  • butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Cut the rolls into small cubes and soak them in the milk. Mix the butter, sugar, salt, and egg yolks until smooth. Mix the baking powder, sour cream, quark, and pudding mix together and fold in. Peel and dice the apples, mix them with the rolls, and then fold in the quark mixture. Finally, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks and carefully fold them into the mixture. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle some breadcrumbs and sugar on top. Then scatter a few flakes of butter over the casserole and cover everything. The casserole must be baked at 200°C for 60 minutes. Remove the lid for the last 15 minutes so that the casserole gets a nice brown.
