Grandma's Tomato and Onion Chutney

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1,500 g tomatoes
  • 750 g onion(s)
  • 500 g apples
  • ½ liter of vinegar
  • 750 g sugar
  • 50 g salt
  • 50 g mustard seeds
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp paprika powder
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Peel and core the apples. Chop the apples, onions, and tomatoes into small pieces. Place everything in a large pot and add the remaining ingredients. Simmer over medium heat for about 2 hours, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cooking time may vary slightly. While still warm, pour the chutney into jars and screw on the lids tightly, and it will keep for years. This chutney goes well with any type of meat, for grilling, with cheese, sausage, and for dipping.
