Hearty braised beef

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 1 ½ kg beef
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 onions
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • 5 tbsp vegetable fat
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 8 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 10 hours 20 minutes

marinated in soy sauce.

Place the beef in a large bowl. Mix the soy sauce with the water and ginger and pour over the meat. Cut the onions into eighths and add them to the meat. Cover and let it marinate for 6-8 hours (or longer), turning frequently. Then heat the vegetable oil in a pan, pat the meat dry, and sear it on all sides. Gradually add the marinade and simmer the meat, covered, over low heat for 2 hours. Mix the flour with the milk, salt, sugar, and mustard, and then use this to thicken the sauce.
