Potato and kohlrabi gratin

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g potatoes
  • 500 g kohlrabi
  • salt and pepper
  • Nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 1 clove(s) garlic
  • 40 g butter, melted
  • 200 g mountain cheese, grated, or another cheese to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 375 ml cream, alternatively milk
  • 40 g butter flakes
  • 1 tsp parsley, for sprinkling

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 40 minutes

Potatoes with kohlrabi, perfectly combined

Wash and peel the potatoes and kohlrabi, then slice them thinly using a cucumber slicer. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Peel and halve the garlic clove, then rub the cut side of the garlic into a baking dish. Brush the dish with melted butter. Alternate the potatoes and kohlrabi in an upright position in the dish, sprinkling a little cheese between each row. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the vegetables. Whisk together the cream and eggs and pour over the vegetables. Distribute the butter flakes over the gratin. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 60 minutes on the middle rack. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve.
