Briefly bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a pan and toast the breadcrumbs until golden brown. Then, slowly stir the porridge flour and salt into the milk and let it thicken over very low heat, stirring constantly. Pour the finished porridge onto a plate or into a bowl and garnish with the breadcrumbs. Add the applesauce, if desired, and sweeten with cinnamon and sugar. A super simple and delicious recipe from grandma’s time.
