Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 large onions
  • 4 slices of mozzarella
  • 2 cups flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 bottle of sauce (marinara sauce)
  • olive oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Peel the onions, slice into 1 cm thick rings, and separate the rings. Cut the mozzarella into 4 even strips and place a smaller onion ring in the center of a larger one. Fill the gaps between the rings with mozzarella strips. Repeat with the remaining onion rings and freeze for 1 hour. Place the flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs in three separate bowls. Coat each prepared ring in flour, then in beaten egg, breadcrumbs, egg, and breadcrumbs. Repeat with the remaining onion rings. Heat oil in a saucepan. Fry the rings until golden brown. Be careful not to overcook them, as the cheese may completely ooze out. Drain on a paper towel and serve with marinara sauce.
