Cheese and beer bread with sage

Spread the love

Ingredients for 15 servings:

  • 310 g flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped (or 1.5 tsp dried)
  • 375 ml beer, the bottle freshly opened
  • 125 g Cheddar cheese or medium-aged Dutch cheese, finely grated
  • 1 pinch(s) of cayenne pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius (375 degrees Fahrenheit). Grease and flour a 23cm (9-inch) loaf pan. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sage. Stir in the freshly brewed beer (important!) and the desired cheese, mixing well. Pour into the loaf pan and spread evenly. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, until a toothpick or skewer inserted into the center of the bread comes out crisp. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
