Traditional dish of farmers and dairymen
Dissolve the yeast in a little warm milk with a little sugar. Mix the flour with the remaining sugar and salt. Knead the flour mixture with the butter, egg yolks, vanilla seeds, dissolved yeast, and the remaining milk into a nice, smooth dough. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Heat the shortening over low heat. Knead the dough thoroughly and form it into tiny balls, which you then fry in the shortening until golden brown. For the topping, heat the schnapps with the water, sugar, citrus zest, cinnamon, and cloves. Pour the cooled liquid over the balls.
