Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 1 cup milk, boiled
- 1 egg(s), beaten
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 packet of yeast (dry yeast)
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- a little nutmeg, grated
- n. B. Icing sugar for dusting
- e.g. vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Working time approx. 45 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 45 minutes
In a bowl, mix the milk with the egg, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and sugar. Add the yeast and stir until dissolved. Add the flour, salt, and spices (use only a little nutmeg—you can omit it if you don’t like it) to the other ingredients, mix to form a dough, and knead well. Let this dough rise for about 45 minutes. Knead again until smooth. Roll out the dough into a 2.5 cm thick dough. Cut into small squares measuring 20 x 10 cm, cover, and let rise for another 45 minutes. Heat the vegetable oil to 190°C and fry the dough squares in batches until golden brown, turning occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a kitchen towel. Dust with powdered sugar and serve hot. Serve with a cafe au lait.
