Anni’s Red Herring Salad

The perfect anni’s red herring salad recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 3 Herring fillet
  • 250 ml Milk
  • 150 g Beetroot from the glass
  • 60 g Gherkins
  • 60 g Apple, cut ready
  • 1 Shallot
  • 3 tbsp Sour cream
  • 0,333333 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt
  • Pepper from the grinder
  • Sugar
  1. Rinse the matjes with cold water, pat dry and cut into bite-sized pieces and soak in milk for an hour. Cut the beetroot into small cubes. It is best to work with disposable gloves – beetroot colors! Peel and finely chop the shallot. Peel and quarter the apple, remove the core and cut into small cubes. Also cut the pickled cucumber into small cubes.
  2. Mix the sour cream with mustard and season with salt, pepper and 2-3 pinches of sugar. Mix the sour cream with the other ingredients and let it steep for at least 1 hour. Tastes great on bread or with potato pancakes.
