Ingredients for 6 servings:
- 3 tbsp lard
- 1 small red cabbage, finely sliced
- 2 m.-sized apples, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 onion(s), finely diced
- 200 ml water, approx., warm
- 100 ml apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar
- 45 g sugar
- 3 carnations
- 2 juniper berries (optional)
- 1 pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 pinch(s) of pepper
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 6 hours; Total time approx. 6 hours 30 minutes
a recipe for the crockpot / slow cooker
Grease the ceramic pot with lard. Add the remaining ingredients to the crockpot and mix well. Cover. Braising time: 6-8 hours on the lowest setting (“low”). Stir once halfway through the cooking time if possible. Season to taste. Note: The amount of liquid depends on the size of the red cabbage. Add a little more water after 5 hours if necessary.
