Baked asparagus wrapped in ham

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg asparagus
  • 15 g butter
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • 250 ml water
  • 400 g raw ham, thinly sliced
  • 100 g cheese (Emmental), grated
  • 70 g butter
  • ½ head of lettuce

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Peel the asparagus. Heat butter in an oblong saucepan. Layer the asparagus. Season with salt, sugar, and nutmeg. Pour water over it. Bring the water to a boil. Cover the asparagus and simmer for 20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Remove the asparagus from the water and drain. Wrap three spears each with a slice of ham. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter and place the ham rolls in it. Sprinkle with Emmental cheese and plenty of freshly ground pepper. Melt 70g butter in a pan and drizzle over the cheese. Cook in the oven on the middle rack for 15 minutes. In the meantime, trim and wash the lettuce and spin dry. Cover a platter with lettuce leaves. Remove the dish from the oven and carefully arrange the ham rolls on the lettuce leaves. Serve immediately.
