Baking: King Cake

The perfect baking: king cake recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 500 g Spelled flour type 630
  • 250 g Butter
  • 250 g Sugar
  • 1 packet Baking powder
  • 3 tablespoon Milk
  • 1 packet Vanilla sugar
  • 6 piece Eggs
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 6 drops Taste of rum
  • 100 g Cherries
  • 50 g Raisins
  • 50 g Orange peel
  • 50 g Lemon peel
  • Sifted powdered sugar
  • Fat and crumbs for the mold
  1. Cut the cherries and raisins into small pieces. Mix together with the orange peel and lemon peel with a tablespoon of flour.
  2. Make a heavy batter from flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, butter, eggs, salt, baking powder, milk and rum flavoring.
  3. Now fold in the floured fruits and fill the dough into a greased and crumbled loaf pan.
  4. Bake the cake in a preheated oven at approx. 180 degrees for about 1 hour. Cover up the last few minutes, if necessary, so that it doesn’t burn. (Toothpick test) Lift the finished cake out of the mold and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  5. Tip 5: If you don’t want to use that many eggs, you can replace two eggs with milk or cream. Lemon peel and orange peel can also be exchanged for more raisins.
