Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 250 g butter
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 300 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 300 g flour
  • 1 tsp, heaped baking soda
  • 40 g cocoa powder
  • 200 ml sour cream
  • some butter
  • powdered sugar or cake icing if required

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Chocolate cake from the former GDR

Preheat oven to 180°C (top/bottom heat) and grease a baking sheet with butter. Combine the butter, vanilla sugar, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl with a hand mixer or whisk. Combine the flour, baking soda, and cocoa powder, add to the mixture, and mix well. Finally, add the sour cream and mix with the cake mixture. Transfer to a baking sheet and spread evenly with a spoon, the back of a knife, or a cake smoother. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. You can dust the finished cake with powdered sugar or cover it with a cocoa-based glaze.
