Bavarian coleslaw

Spread the love

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 1 head of white cabbage
  • 300 g vegetable onions
  • 1 tbsp caraway seeds
  • 8 tbsp oil
  • 150 g bacon, diced
  • 10 tbsp vinegar (white wine)
  • 4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tsp horseradish, from the jar

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Halve the white cabbage, cut out the stalk and remove the outer leaves. Then grate the cabbage into fine strips. Peel the onion and cut it into fine strips. Place it in a bowl with the white cabbage. Roughly chop the caraway seeds on a board with a little of the oil. The oil will prevent the caraway seeds from flying away. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and fry the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon cubes and let the fat drain on kitchen paper. For the marinade, put the remaining oil, vinegar, spices, sugar, bacon, horseradish and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Then pour the liquid over the salad and mix well. The salad should marinate for about 60 minutes before serving. It is best to season again before serving.
