  • 1 pinch of garlic powder
  • 2 dashes liquid sweetener
  • 3 pinches of cayenne pepper

  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • possibly Metaxa
  • possibly whiskey
  • possibly cornstarch, approx. 10 g

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

light low-fat version, without ketchup and low in sugar, suitable for WW

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Then simmer uncovered over low heat for about 1 hour. After this time, the quantity will be reduced by about half. If you like, you can add a little cornstarch to help the sauce blend together. Then it’s time to season. Whether you prefer it sweeter or spicier is up to you. The sauce gets a final kick by mixing in 1 tablespoon of Metaxa, whiskey, or similar at the end. While the sauce is still hot, pour it into bottles and let it cool upside down. This makes about 500-600 ml. Two 250 ml bottles with metal lids, which have been rinsed with boiling water beforehand, are best. The sauce will then keep in the refrigerator for a good three weeks.
