Beef Steak with Cream Kohlrabi and Mashed Potatoes

The perfect beef steak with cream kohlrabi and mashed potatoes recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

Beef steaks:

  • 600 g Beef meat
  • Cling film
  • Aluminum foil
  • 0,5 Cup Peanut oil
  • Coarse sea salt from the mill
  • Colorful pepper from the mill

Cream Kohlrabi:

  • 2 Kohlrabis approx. 1 kg (cleaned 750 g)
  • 1 liter Vegetable broth (4 teaspoons instant)
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • 300 ml Vegetable broth
  • 4 tbsp Cream
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0,5 tsp Pepper
  • 1 Strong pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 Splash of lemon juice
  • 4 Finely chopped kohlrabi leaves

Mashed potatoes:

  • 800 g Potatoes
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 4 tbsp Cream
  • 4 tbsp Vegetable broth
  • 2 Strong pinches of salt
  • 2 Strong pinches of pepper
  • 1 Strong pinch of nutmeg

To serve:

  • 4 Stalks of parsley

Beef steaks:

  1. Shape the beef mince into a roll (approx. 6 – 8 cm in diameter). First wrap in foil and then in aluminum foil and place in the freezer for about 1 hour. Take the beef mince out of the freezer, unpack, cut into approx. 2 cm thick slices (makes 6 – 8 pieces) with a sharp knife, fry in a pan with peanut oil (½ cup) on both sides until golden-brown and pepper on both sides salt.

Cream Kohlrabi:

  1. Peel and quarter the kohlrabi and cut into sticks (1 cm edge length) (here: cut with a kitchen helper from Genius). Boil the kohlrabi sticks in vegetable stock (1 liter / 4 teaspoons instant) for about 7 – 8 minutes, drain and collect the vegetable stock. In a hot saucepan with butter (1 tbsp) and flour (2 tbsp) stir in a stew, deglaze / pour in the vegetable stock (approx. 300 ml) and stir in the cream (4 tbsp). Season with salt (2 big pinches), pepper (2 big pinches) and nutmeg (1 big pinch) and fold in the cooked kohlrabi. Let everything simmer for a few minutes on a very low flame. Stir again and again. If necessary, season again with salt and pepper.

Mashed potatoes:

  1. Peel the potatoes, cook in salted water (1 teaspoon) for about 20 minutes, drain, butter (1 tbsp), cream (4 tbsp), vegetable stock (4 tbsp), salt (2 big pinches), pepper (2 big pinches) and nutmeg (1 big pinch) and work through well with the potato masher.

Serve:

  1. Serve beef steaks with cream kohlrabi and mashed potatoes, garnished with parsley. If necessary, drizzle the beef steak roast liquid over the mashed potatoes.

Tips:

  1. Preparation sequence: mashed potatoes, cream kohlrabi and finally the beef steaks. The beef steaks are both medium (pink) and well-done (well-done) fry very well.
