In the New Year, you can start with a clean slate. And not just can, but must. They say that on New Year’s Eve, it is necessary to clean the house, to throw out everything unnecessary and obsolete. This, by the way, applies not only to things. And something good and desirable will definitely come in the place that is vacated.

What to throw away before the New Year – the traditions of other countries

The tradition to get rid of unnecessary things before the New Year exists in Chile, Argentina, and Italy. For example, before the New Year Chileans take in hand a broom and throw out all unnecessary things in the street – in this way they chase away all the negative energy from the house.

In Argentina, on New Year’s Eve, the streets of cities, especially the business district of Buenos Aires, are covered with paper. On the last day of the year, the Argentines throw out of the windows all the unnecessary documents and forms and thus get rid of problems and misfortunes.

But, of course, the Italians “surpass” everyone: on New Year’s Eve they throw out the windows all the unnecessary things, not just waste paper. In Italy, they believe that the more junk you throw away, the happier you will be in the new year.

What things should be thrown out of the house – 5 categories

  • Broken items.

Cracked or broken dishes, a broken umbrella, leaky sneakers – none of these should be in the house. You also need to get rid of appliances that you haven’t been able to repair for a long time. Take it as a rule: if a broken thing has been lying around for a long time, and you do not have the hands (no desire, resources) to fix it or take it to repair – that’s it, you do not need it. Such items only occupy your mind and take away your energy. If you feel sorry for throwing them away, then, as an option, you can give the thing to someone who can fix them.

  • Clothes you don’t wear

“I open the closet – all rags, looking for a rag – all things,” – familiar situation? We advise before the New Year to do an audit in the closet: get up the courage and throw out everything that you have not worn in the last two years. Dresses from university, jeans from school, an almost new suit, which for some reason became too small – all “scrap. Pity to throw away – give it to any of your relatives or friends, to whom things will fit. And remember, by giving – we acquire.

  • Paper that is waste.

Checks, glossy magazines, newspapers, manuals, advertising booklets, old receipts, and unnecessary documents are all junk. If you start going through them, you’ll see for yourself. If you do not have time to look through and reread everything – then just throw it away, or better take it to the office of waste paper reception. Not the fact that you will get a lot of money for it, but there will be a pleasant feeling that you are not littering the environment.

  • Also helpful

The answer is no. Incomprehensible parts and spare parts, empty cans and boxes, gifts that do not fit, souvenirs, dust collectors and nice trinkets from the sale, a cookbook or Turkish language tutorial, which you have not opened yet – they just take up space in the house and even remind of what you did not have time to do. With stale cosmetics and drugs the same story – all in the trash, because they can cause damage to your health.

  • Unnecessary worries.

This is perhaps the most important item among the things that should be thrown out of the house before the New Year. Don’t take stress and worry, outdated relationships, toxic people, and bad memories with you into the New Year. Sure, that’s easy to say, but harder to do. Then imagine that all that stuff has expired. And it’s also been observed that if you put your house in order, the order in your thoughts will come. So get to work on the first four points. You will immediately feel like it’s easier to breathe, and you will be motivated to start a new life. Go into the new year with positive thoughts, plans, and goals, and no matter what happens, believe – you will succeed.
