A popular dish in the Netherlands and Belgium – roasted logs

Combine the ground beef with the onions, ham strips, squeezed bread roll, egg, and cheese, and season with salt and pepper. Form small tree trunks. Mix the panko with the breadcrumbs and place on a plate. Transfer the egg whites to a second plate. Roll the tree trunks one at a time in the egg whites and then in the panko breadcrumbs. Depending on the thickness of the boomstammetjes, fry in oil in a pan at a moderate temperature for about 20 minutes. The panko will brown quickly. A suggested side dish: mashed potatoes served with the fat from the pan. Optionally, garnish with chives.
