Mashed potatoes with buttermilk

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 1 cup(s) milk (UHT milk)
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 125 g smoked bacon (belly bacon), diced
  • 500 ml buttermilk
  • some water, salted
  • nutmeg

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Peel the potatoes, cut into large cubes, and cook with a little salt for about 15-20 minutes. In the meantime, peel the onion, dice finely, and sauté with the diced bacon until translucent. Drain some of the potato water and mash the potatoes with the water. Heat the UHT milk and stir it into the mashed potatoes until smooth. Finally, stir the onion and bacon mixture into the mashed potatoes. Season with salt and nutmeg. Serve the mashed potatoes on plates, and pour the cold buttermilk around them—do not mix them together. When eating, always enjoy some of the mashed potatoes and some of the buttermilk together. We usually cook it in the summer because the cold buttermilk is refreshing.
