traditional Austrian pastry

Whisk the flour with the egg, salt, yeast, a little sugar (approx. 50 g), and the lukewarm milk. This should form a sticky dough. Let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes. Then grease a baking dish with butter. Roll the dough into flat circles and fill with a teaspoon of jam. Shape these into balls and place them in the baking dish. Continue working the dough until it is all gone and the dish is full of jam dough balls. Let these rise for another 20 minutes. Drizzle with melted butter and bake in a hot oven at 175°C (top/bottom heat) for about 30 minutes. Prepare the vanilla pudding according to the package instructions and immediately serve the hot Buchteln on top of the warm vanilla sauce.
