Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 35 minutes
For the burger buns, put the butter, flour, and egg whites in a bowl. Add the sugar, salt, and dry yeast and stir in. Gradually add 85 ml of water and knead everything together. Form the dough into 4 equal-sized, flat, round buns. Let the buns rise for 2 hours, then bake in the oven at 185°C for 15 minutes. Cut the slices of bread into small cubes, place them in a small bowl, and soak them in a little water. Peel the onion, cut them into small pieces, and sauté them in a pan. Squeeze the juices out of the bread cubes and place them in a bowl with the sautéed onions. Cut the mushrooms into small pieces and add them to the onions and toast. Add the ground beef and egg, season with pepper, marjoram, salt, and rosemary, and knead everything together. Form the dough into patties and sear them on both sides at medium heat. Reduce the heat slightly and fry the patties for five minutes. Place a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt. Top the finished burgers and patties with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup, or remoulade as desired.
