Can you freeze limes? That’s something to consider
The answer to that is simple: yes, you can freeze limes and use them all year round. However, you should make sure that you never freeze the citrus fruit without a freezer bag or similar protection. Otherwise, the limes will lose their taste, consistency, and appearance. However, if you have frozen the citrus fruits correctly, they can keep for six to eight months.
- Avoid slicing the limes and then freezing them. As a result, the fruit quickly loses vitamins and the appearance and consistency also suffer.
- After you have thawed the limes, you should process them immediately. Don’t be surprised: the citrus fruit becomes soft after defrosting and has turned brown.
- You should be aware that limes, like any other fruit, lose flavor and vitamins when frozen.
How to freeze limes
Limes can be frozen in different ways. We will tell you various options. If you choose to freeze whole limes, they can be very soft and mushy after thawing, making them ideal for cooking.
- Freeze whole limes. To do this, first, clean the fruit thoroughly and then dry it. Then put a maximum of two limes in a freezer bag. Seal the bag tightly and make sure there is no air in it. Then put the bag in the freezer.
- If you want to freeze lime juice, the best way to do this is with ice cube trays. First, squeeze the juice out of the fruit with a lemon squeezer and then pour it into the ice cube tray, which you can then place in the freezer as usual.
- You can also freeze just the pulp. To do this, scrape out the lime peel with a spoon after halving the fruit. Put the pulp in a suitable container, which you then close well and put in the freezer.
