Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 pack of cannelloni
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 200 g smoked belly, diced
  • 1 large onion(s), diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 bunch of spring onions, in rings, can be omitted
  • 1 pack of fresh mushrooms, roughly diced
  • 1 can of tomatoes, chopped
  • 400 ml milk
  • 1 tube(s) Tomato paste
  • 1 pack of tomato puree
  • 200 g cheese, grated
  • Herbs, Italian, mixed
  • salt and pepper
  • Sugar
  • chili
  • 2 tbsp oil

To fill the cannelloni, heat the minced meat in a large (!) pan or large saucepan with 2 tablespoons of oil until well-cooked. Then add the bacon, onions, and garlic. Season with herbs, chili, salt, and pepper. Finally, add the spring onions, mushrooms, and the can of chopped tomatoes and season again to taste. The mixture should remain fairly dry to make filling the cannelloni easier—add a little water or white wine if necessary. Then fill the cannelloni with the mixture. Place the filled cannelloni in a large baking dish. For the sauce, whisk the milk, tomato paste, and tomato puree in a tall bowl. Season with sugar, salt, pepper, and herbs, and pour over the cannelloni. Sprinkle with cheese and bake at 190°C for 30 minutes. This goes perfectly with a strong Italian red wine for mom or a good, cold beer for dad.
