Cauliflower nuggets are a healthy alternative to meat products – for young and old. Even children who don’t like vegetables will be pleasantly surprised by the tasty nuggets. How to make them, we explain to you in the following article.
You need these ingredients for cauliflower nuggets
For four servings of cauliflower nuggets, you need a small cauliflower, potatoes, flour, cornflakes, breadcrumbs, an egg, and salt and pepper to taste. Depending on your taste, you can also add parsley.
- First, wash the cauliflower and cut it into small pieces. Before preparing the potatoes, you should peel them, wash them, and, like the cauliflower, cut them into small pieces.
- Bring a sufficient amount of water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the vegetables and let them cook for ten minutes.
- Place the vegetables in a colander, drain well and allow to cool.
- For the breading, crush 100 grams of cornflakes with a potato masher or a blender. Then add 50 grams of breadcrumbs.
- In another plate or bowl, crack an egg and whisk well with a fork.
- On another plate put 100 grams of sifted flour.
- Optionally chop a bunch of parsley.
How to prepare the cauliflower nuggets
You can make cauliflower nuggets in different ways: instead of potatoes, add pumpkin or broccoli, for example. Carrots are also a good option. It is best to choose the spices according to your taste: for example, in addition to pepper, you can also use chili flakes.
- Now mash the vegetables with a masher. To the resulting mass add about six tablespoons of sifted flour and one egg. Then season the mixture to your taste and add the chopped parsley.
- Make sure the dough is chewy. If it’s still too runny, just add a little more flour.
- When the dough is perfect, shape it into balls.
- Then roll the balls first in flour, then in the egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs. It is best to place the balls on a floured board.
- Finally, the balls only have to be fried in plenty of oil until golden brown.
- Of course, you can also simply prepare the nuggets in the deep fryer. It is best to follow the instructions for use of the device.
- If the nuggets are firm enough, you can also try them in the oven. Preheat the oven to around 200 degrees Celsius top and bottom heat. Bake the nuggets until golden in color.
