Chapati – Indian flatbread

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 100 g spelt flour
  • 100 g wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp, leveled salt
  • Water, lukewarm

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Variant with spelt flour

Mix the spelt flour with the wheat flour and salt. Then add the olive oil and stir in. Then add a little lukewarm water and knead. Repeat this process until the dough is thick but not sticky – the amount of water varies depending on the quality of the flour, but you’ll quickly get a feel for the right consistency. Divide the dough into about 8 equal portions and shape into balls. Preheat a medium-sized frying pan (without oil!). Roll out each ball of dough very thinly (about 2 mm) with a rolling pin. Fry the flatbreads one after the other in the hot pan without oil on the highest heat. When bubbles appear in the dough, turn the flatbread over and fry briefly on the other side. Each flatbread usually takes less than a minute. Very good with curries and spicy dishes.
