  • 250 g flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp mustard, ground
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 100 g cream cheese with herbs
  • 2 tbsp chives, freshly chopped, plus some for garnish
  • 100 ml milk (skimmed milk)
  • 60 g Cheddar cheese, reduced fat, grated
  • Low-fat cream cheese for serving
  • 2 tbsp milk (skimmed milk)

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Sift the flour, baking powder, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, and salt into a bowl. Add the cream cheese and knead everything into a smooth dough. Knead in the chives. Make a well in the center of the dough. While stirring constantly, add 100ml of milk until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface and roll out into a 2cm thick sheet. Using a round cookie cutter (5cm diameter), cut out rolls and place them on a baking sheet. Knead the leftover dough and roll out again. Cut out rolls again. You should have 10 rolls in total. Brush the rolls with the remaining milk and sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake for 5-20 minutes, until risen and light brown. Let cool. Serve warm with low-fat cream cheese garnished with chive strips.
