Ingredients for 12 servings:

  • 1 kg flour
  • 1 cube of yeast, fresh
  • 550 ml milk, warm
  • 100 g butter, soft
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tsp salt
  • e.g. cheese, sliced

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours 15 minutes

Place salt, sugar, warm milk, and yeast in a bowl and mix thoroughly until the yeast is dissolved. Now add the flour and butter. Knead everything thoroughly (about 5 minutes by hand). Let rise in a warm place for 2 hours. Knead again thoroughly and shape into about 12 rolls. Place these on two baking sheets lined with baking paper and let rise for another 20 minutes, covered. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C. Before placing the rolls in the oven for 20-25 minutes, score them lengthwise, spray or brush them with water, and top with cheese (I used packaged Gouda and cut the slices). Now place in the preheated oven. Keep an eye on them until the cheese starts to turn golden brown.
