Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 500 g wheat flour (wholemeal)
- ½ cube of yeast
- 300 ml milk, lukewarm
- 1 tsp, levelled sugar
- 50 g margarine (vegetable margarine, unhydrogenated)
- 100 g cheese (e.g. Edam), grated
- 1 tsp salt
- pepper
- 1 egg yolk
- some milk
- 2 tbsp cheese, grated, for sprinkling
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Place the whole wheat flour in a bowl and make a well in the center. Crumble the yeast into it, add the sugar, and mix with some of the lukewarm milk. Let this yeast starter rise in the well at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Melt the margarine, season with salt and pepper, and add it to the bowl along with the remaining milk. Add the grated cheese. Mix everything together to form a smooth dough, then let it rise for about 30 minutes. Form the dough into about 15 rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes on a greased baking sheet. Whisk together some milk and the egg yolk, brush the rolls with it, and sprinkle with the 2 tablespoons of grated cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 30 minutes.
