ideal for a party buffet or as a main meal with salad

Peel and finely dice the onion. Wash and pick the basil, and finely chop the leaves. Knead the minced meat, onion, 2/3 of the basil, and a pinch of pepper together. Cut a wide, flat wedge out of the bread lengthwise and spread the indentation with garlic butter (reserve the rest of the bread for another purpose). Spread the minced meat mixture into the indentation and press down. Place the ciabatta on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven (top/bottom heat: 200°C, fan: 175°C, gas mark 3) for about 20 minutes. Wash and slice the tomatoes. Drain the mozzarella and slice them. Remove the ciabatta from the oven. Top with the mozzarella and tomatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and the remaining basil, and drizzle with oil. Bake at the same temperature for about another 20 minutes. Slice the ciabatta and garnish as desired. Ciabatta is ideal for a party buffet. It can be eaten cold, but also tastes great as a main course with a green or tomato salad.
